Artemis Centre, Melbourne Girls Grammar, South Yarra, VIC

Melbourne Girls Grammar recently completed the construction of a world-class wellness centre costing $20 million. The centre is named after the mythical goddess Artemis who represented strength and good health. A team of female architects from BVN Architecture designed the 4,500m2 purpose-built facility specifically for the girls’ school. The centre provides various wellbeing programs and has a 25m indoor swimming pool, multi-use indoor sports courts, fitness centre, gymnasium, consulting rooms, classrooms, café and outdoor terraces.

Project Design Brief

The designers wanted a clean, sophisticated design incorporating elegant finishes.Various coloured large tiles were selected for the floor and wall surfaces in the wet areas. To enable simple and easy installation of the large tiles, an elegant drainage system that facilitated two-way falls was required. Slip resistant foot friendly grates were also required for the students’ safety in all the wet areas.
